It’s 1964. A period of great turmoil, of the desire to change the world, of ideals and dreams. A group of young men and women gather around Ernesto Olivero, looking for a name to identify themselves: "Young People’s Missionary Service". It’s the beginning of an adventure whose goal is to make a great dream come true: to eliminate hunger in the world.

Real efforts and great dreams to become a reality: an enormous challenge! The willingness to believe in dreams and the commitment to make them come true will be constant factors for Sermig.
The road was a long one. In becoming familiar with the problems of the Third World we learned the value of peace, of justice, of solidarity with all the miseries in life. A real cultural revolution that helps us to convert Sermig from a group that "does" to a brotherhood that "is".

The first building of the former military Arsenal of Turin, an old weapons factory, with a surface area of 45,000 square metres, was delivered to us on 2 August 1983. More than five thousand people worked there during the most intense period of activity.

Today, as you wander around the arsenal, you can still find some small wooden cubes. Sometimes they form a floor, and sometimes dirty piles.
